O álbum ao vivo autointitulado do The Grateful Dead de 1971 está recebendo uma edição expandida remasterizada para seu 50º aniversário.
Conhecido pelos fãs como Skull & Roses devido à sua capa icônica, o LP ao vivo homônimo contém material gravado em Nova York e na cidade natal da banda, São Francisco durante março e abril de 1971.
O conjunto expandido inclui versões remasterizadas de suas 11 faixas originais e um disco bônus de 10 faixas inéditas que foram gravadas durante o show final da banda no Fillmore West em 2 de julho de 1971.
Skull & Roses marcou o segundo álbum ao vivo do Grateful Dead depois de Live / Dead de 1969 e se tornou o primeiro álbum a receber o certificado de ouro da RIAA.
O disco captura a banda original de cinco integrantes, tocando seu rock 'n' roll mais forte ('Johnny B. Goode,' 'Not Fade Away'), mostrando sua autenticidade Bakersfield ('Me & My Uncle, '' Mama Tried, '' Me & Bobby McGee ') e alguns originais que seriam partes importantes do repertório ao vivo do Dead pelos próximos 24 anos (' Bertha, '' Playing In The Band, '' Wharf Rat ').
